Water Gentian - Plant

Nymphoides peltata
Water Gentian

Aquatic plants make your pond complete

The lovely Yellow Floating Heart (Nymphoides Peltata) has graceful, water lily-like leaves. The almost round green, brown-mottled leaves of this water plant float on the water with the bright yellow cup-shaped flowers standing proudly above them. The petals of the water gentian have slightly fringed petals. This richly flowering oxygen plant provides oxygen to the pond. This ensures it stays healthy.

Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • The aquatic plant, Yellow Floating Heart, is best planted in a pond basket. Cover the basket with jute and fill with special soil. Plant Nymphoides peltata in the basket and fill up with soil. Cover with the remaining jute and sprinkle with a layer of gravel. Place the basket just below the surface or up to 20-100 cm deep in the pond. This plant grows well in deep water. Put this plant in full sun. The best time to plant is between May and June.

  • Care
  • Yellow Floating Heart is a strong pond plant that requires minimal maintenance. Cut off dead leaves in autumn and remove from the pond. If the clump grows too large, remove the Nymphoides peltata from the pond in May. Divide the clump into smaller pieces and plant only one piece back inside the pond.

  • Specifics
  • Yellow Floating Heart has flowers that remain open for just one day. Fortunately, several new flowers open daily. It is a rapid grower and will eventually need a lot of space. This beautiful aquatic plant is still common in the wild.
