Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • Wallflower (Erysimum 'Constant Cheer') grows and flowers well in a spot in full sun, in permeable, somewhat rich soil. Ideal for a south facing garden!

It is a plant that will grow best in open ground. Dig a sufficiently large plant hole and properly loosen the soil. Improve heavy garden soil by mixing in a little sharp sand. Place the root ball of Erysimum 'Constant Cheer' at the correct depth in the plant hole. The top of the root ball should be just below ground level. Fill the plant hole with soil, press down firmly and water your Erysimum 'Constant Cheer' immediately after planting.
Erysimum 'Constant Cheer' in your rock garden
As Erysimum 'Constant Cheer' likes to grow in a warm, dry and sunny spot, it will be an excellent choice for your rock garden.

This plant will also look magnificent in a flower pot or planter. Provide a sandy soil mixture and a spot in full sun.

  • Care
  • Wallflower is a strong garden plant that requires little care. Drought is well tolerated, but make sure the soil around the roots does not dry out.

Give a little garden fertiliser in early spring. Cut away all unsightly stems in spring. Soon, new new shoots will appear above ground.

    Wallflower in winter
In winter, Erysimum 'Constant Cheer' hates soil that is too wet.

In principle, the wallflower is evergreen, but it may lose leaves during harsh winters. The plant will be grateful for a protective layer of leaves or other covering that may provide protection against winter. The plant will produce new leaves in spring.
