Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • Plant your Tulipa 'Calgary Flames’® bulbs as soon as possible upon receipt in the garden or planters. As long as they are not planted, store frost-free, although they are also not usually protected when planted in pots either.
Plant in a hole 3x the size of the bulb - a 5 cm bulb goes in a 15 cm hole.
Planting distance for the 'Calgary Flames'® tulip bulbs is roughly 8 cm. Loosen the soil with a fork and plant the bulbs point up, cover with soil and do not walk over the planting area. Use a bulb trowel to plant individual bulbs or dig a wider hole and plant several, spaced out appropriately. The more bulbs you plant, the better the effect will be when in bloom. Plant at least six in proximity or scatter 25-50 bulbs over a bed or border.

Tulip 'Calgary Flames’® in a pot
Tulipa 'Calgary Flames’® will also thrive in planters or window-boxes. Make sure you use fresh potting compost and layer the bottom of the planter with hydro pellets or gravel. The hole should be 3x the size of the bulb so a 5 cm bulb goes in a 15 cm hole. In pots, the planting distance for the 'Calgary Flames’® tulip is roughly 6 cm. Do protect bulbs in pots by storing them frost-free or wrapping the pot in bubble wrap. Water them in dry periods.
