TiSento® Zantedeschia white - Plant

Zantedeschia aethiopica
TiSento® Zantedeschia white

Striking arum lily as a house plant!

This Zantedeschia (Calla) by TiSento® is a particularly spectacular example but a large bract in a really gorgeous colour! The actual flowers on a Calla (Zantedeschia) are on the yellow spike in the middle of the bract. This Calla will definitely be noticed and it will flower continually in your home for weeks on end! When flowering is finally over, you can plant this Arum-lily in the garden.

  • Planting
  • Your Zantedeschia will come in a nursery pot and will soon start to flower, if it hasn't already. There are a few options open:
    1. Stand the pot in an attractive planter.
    2. Pot up using fresh humus rich compost (layer the bottom of the pot with potsherds).
    3. Just stand the pot on a saucer.
Water immediately as your Zantedeschia is happiest in a fairly moist soil. Always water generously.

  • Care
  • Water your Zantedeschia generously in the summer – keep the soil slightly moist at all times. We recommend adding plant food to the water for a more profuse flowering. When grown in a pot (ensure holes), keep it on a saucer with a layer of water to help it through dry periods. Stop feeding when flowering is over. Feel free then to plant it in the garden, as long as it is somewhere where the soil is relatively damp.

Mixing your arum lily with other plants
A corner of the garden with very moist soil will be enhanced with a mix of Zantedeschia and some hostas. A hosta with a bluish leaf will contrast beautifully with the pink bracts of the arum lily. A combination of various colours of arum lily in a large planter can also look stunning.
Getting your arum lily through the winter
Arum lilies are not frost resistant so we always recommend that potted plants are stored frost-free over the winter. Keep the plant somewhat dry, just do not let it dry out entirely. Begin watering more again in the spring and stand the pot with your Zantedeschia outdoors – bring it in again if frost is forecast.

Tubers already planted in the garden need to be protected to survive. A thick mulch of garden compost should help but is no guarantee. Digging them up and storing them in a frost-free place over the winter would be best.

  • Specifics
  • You may not know, but what is generally thought of as the arum lily flower it is actually a funnel-shaped spathe and not strictly a flower. The actual blooms are tiny – you can see them on a small, pale yellow spadix which is almost totally surrounded by the elegant spathe. As this spathe stays attractive for a long time, the Zantedeschia is exceptional as a cut flower. Both the arum lily and the calla lily are called Zantedeschia.
    Zantedeschia in a bouquet
If picking Zantedeschia as a cut flower, you must remove the whole flower stem carefully from the plant. The arrow-shaped and often speckled leaves look great in a bouquet too.
