Show moreMake sure the root ball of the gooseberry is well-moistened prior to planting by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water. Prepare a suitable hole in well-drained, fertile soil. Plant the gooseberry bush at the correct depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil, press firmly and water immediately after planting. Gooseberries grow well in a sunny area.

During dry periods they need to be watered more often although very wet soil is not well-tolerated, especially in the winter. Fertilise moderately in early spring.
