Water your plants immediately upon receipt from us. If it is not yet time to plant them, for whatever reason, do remove the packing and keep them out of the sun. Definitely do not allow them to dry out.
If you plan to plant up various flower pots or planters, then these young plants are suitable. Make sure that the pot has holes in the base to supply adequate drainage and then layer the bottom of the pot or basket with potsherds or clay pellets followed by a layer of fresh potting compost up to 3/4 of the pot. Remove the young plants carefully from their nursery pots and divide equally over the compost. Fill up with more potting compost and press the root balls well in, and then pack the potting compost around the plants taking precaution not to damage the plants. Keep at least 2 cm free under the rim of the pot, then water immediately.
For the first few days, keep the plants in the shade so that they gradually become accustomed to outdoor temperatures. After 5-6 days they can be moved to your chosen place which should be in the sun. In summer place a saucer of water under the pot and fill it again when it is empty.
These plants will also feel at home in the border. Use fresh potting compost and plant far enough apart (40-50 cm should be good). Water immediately after planting.

Do bring indoors to a light and frost-free spot in the winter - before the first frosts. Next year they'll be even larger.Show more
Planting and flowering details
Show moreWater the young plants only when the soil feels dry. Young plants are fast growers, so during development and in flower, feed them once or even twice every two weeks with fertiliser for flowering plants.
Regularly remove faded flowers to stimulate new flowers. When they have finished flowering, prune the plants by cutting the stems back (1/3 or even to ½ of the plant). The plants will then regrow and flourish.
Getting through the winterThese plants in large planters on the patio can be overwintered. Stand them, pot and all, somewhere frost free - an unheated bedroom is also suitable. Evergreens need light but plants that lose their leaf can be stored in the dark. Water them regularly but sparingly (once every three weeks should suffice). When all chance of frost is passed they can go outdoors again. Pot them up into fresh potting compost, water and feed with fertiliser for flowering plants.
