  • Planting
  • As soon as possible after receiving Medinilla Magnifica, plant it in a flower pot. Choose a pot with holes in the base with a matching saucer, so that any excess water can drain away. Or use an ornamental pot in which the irrigation water from the inner pot is collected. Sprinkle a layer of hydro granules over the bottom of the pot, cover with fresh potting compost and plant the root ball of the Medinilla Magnifica at the right depth. Fill the pot with more compost and press firmly. Keep the soil just below the rim so there is room for watering. Water generously after planting and place the pot in a warm. light spot. It needs protecting from direct sunlight.

  • Care
  • Medinilla Magnifica needs watering on a regular basis, keeping the soil moderately moist. Preferably use rainwater. From spring through until August regularly add plant food when watering. Make sure the pot has adequate drainage, as this plant does not tolerate being in soil that is too wet. A high humidity is appreciated. They are very suitable plants for a greenhouse or conservatory. Do not place in a position directly above a radiator as the air would be too dry. Give Medinilla Magnifica less water in the winter and place in a cooler place, about 15°C is ideal. Remove any faded flowers.

  • Specifics
  • Medinilla magnifica is a houseplant that creates a big impression when in flower! The 30 cm long, inflorescence consists of hundreds of pink flowers and large, pink tinted bracts. The flowers hang elegantly over the flower pot. Because the stems overhang so far over the pot, the Medinilla needs to be placed in a tall pot and is best placed on a small table. To prevent the pot from falling over it is best to choose one that is fairly heavy. The oval, dark green leaf is also very decorative with striking veins. Medinilla grows originally in the Philippines.
