Planting and flowering details
Show morePlant your Ophiopogon planiscapus immediately upon receipt in the garden, or in pots or planters for patio or decking. Prepare a large hole and work the soil loose with a fork. Improve poor garden soil by mixing in some garden compost. Plant your Mondo grass at the correct depth - the top of the root ball should come to just below soil level. Fill the hole with soil and heel (press in a pot) well in. Water immediately. Ophiopogon planiscapus will thrive in full sun or part shade in a loose, humus rich soil.
Potted Ophiopogon planiscapusWhen keeping your mondo grass potted, do use a pot with holes in the base. cover the base with potsherds or a layer of hydro-pellets. Add some fresh potting compost and plant your Ophiopogon planiscapus at the correct depth in the pot. Fill the pot up with more potting compost and press firmly in. Water generously immediately and stand the pot in a sunny spot or partly shaded spot. A terracotta (porous) pot is best lined in plastic prior to planting, or use a plastic pot inside a larger planter. This helps prevent evaporation and the plant will not dry out so quickly.
