Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • As soon as possible after receiving the hyacinth ‘Minos’ bulbs they can be planted in the garden or in a flower pot. The bulbs are not frost resistant, so plant them before the first frost. Plant the bulbs in a hole that is three times as deep as the height of the bulbs. For example a bulb of 5 cm should be planted in a 15 cm deep hole. The planting distance between the hyacinth bulbs is about 15 cm. Loosen the soil well and plant the bulbs roots down, point up. Refill the hole and avoid walking over the soil. Plant the flower bulbs one by one with a small trowel or with a special bulb planter. For larger groups, make a larger hole to accommodate more bulbs. Hyacinths grow best in loose, well-drained soil in a spot in full sun or partial shade.
    Hyacinths in the garden
Hyacinthus ‘Minos’ looks teriffic in large drifts so plant in groups of at least 10 bulbs, or divide 30-50 bulbs evenly over the flower bed. This hyacinth with its sturdy stems, also looks great in pots or window boxes where they can be planted slightly closer together. Make sure you use fresh potting compost and have a layer of pot shards or gravel in the bottom of the pot. Pack the pot well in bubble wrap to get the bulbs through Winter. Water in periods of draught.

  • Care
  • The flowers of the Hyacinthus ‘Minos’ are at their best in the first year. That’s why we recommend each year adding new and extra bulbs to make your borders and pots even more colourful. The hyacinth ‘Minos’ grows best in nutritious, well-drained soil in an area in full sun or partial shade. To protect the bulbs grown in a pot against frost, move the pot to a frost-free area or cover it with bubble wrap. Water in dry periods.
