Hyacinth Bulbs with Vases - Bulb

Hyacinthus orientalis ‘Jan Bos’ + ‘Carnegie’ + ‘Delfts Blauw’
Hyacinth Bulbs with Vases

Wintering with colour

These flower bulbs flourish in a special way. That's because you grow the hyacinths with glassware in water and in the dark. Your patience will be amply rewarded once they’re put into the light, because they blossom throughout the entire winter!

You can grow this hyacinth in your living room or conservatory. The flower bulb must first be stored in a cool, dark space. Expect the first flowers within a week or three already!

Flowering Period

Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • As soon as possible after receiving the hyacinth bulbs you can place them in the glass with water, but do not allow the water to touch the bulb. The space between the water and the bulb should be about 2 mm. Put the bulb and glass in a cool, dark place with a temperature of about 10° C, for example in a basement. Once the roots begin to grow and the bud tip has emerged (approximately 4 cm long) the glass can be moved into a light, but rather cool room, in daylight. Move the hyacinths into a warm room, only when the bud has grown completely out of the bulb. You can expect to see the flowers appear 3 weeks later.
    Hyacinths in a pot
It is also possible to plant hyacinths in a flower pot or basket. Use fresh potting compost and space the bulbs evenly in the pot, leaving the tops of the bulbs slightly above the compost. Cover with moss or a fine tree bark. The bulbs can then be treated the same as the bulbs grown in hyacinths glasses. Water when planted and ensure that the compost is kept moist through the flowering period.

  • Care
  • Regularly water during the growth of the hyacinths. It is not necessary to add plant food. These hyacinths have received a special treatment to ensure early flowering indoors. After they have finished flowering the bulbs can be planted outside in the garden. It is recommended the following year to buy new bulbs for indoors.

  • The flowering of hyacinths in glasses has been a passionate hobby since 1600. If you plant them in October, the hyacinths will be flowering for the Christmas season. They smell delightful and fill the entire room with their lovely fragrance.
