What do I need?
• A trowel
• Garden peat and compost
Make sure that the root ball of the Eucalyptus gunnii is sufficiently moist. Place the tree in a bucket of lukewarm water before planting. The Eucalyptus grows well in soil that is nutrient-rich and not too dry. You can improve poor-quality soil by mixing in some compost. Place Eucalyptus in a wind-protected location with full sun.
In a pot
Make a large hole and add some garden peat and compost. Place the Eucalyptus at the proper height, so that the top of the root ball is just below ground level. Fill the planting hole up with soil, press it down firmly and water immediately. The Eucalyptus does not do well when frequently re-planted.

Eucalyptus gunnii - Tree
In feuchten Boden.

Maintenance
For the first month after planting the Eucalyptus you should water it regularly. If it is colder than minus 10 degrees Celsius, protect the stem of the tree with a straw mat or bubble wrap.
Pruning
You do not need to prune a Eucalyptus, but you can if you like. If you want beautiful, new leaves you can trim the branches back during spring. Remove the lowest branches of a young tree, so that the crown of the tree will rise higher.
If you prune too often, the tree may turn into a shrub.
