Planting and flowering details
Show moreAs soon as possible after receiving the Iris 'Wonderland' mixed bulbs they can be planted in the garden, a flower pot or in a planter. If not they must be kept in a frost-free area. Bulbs planted in a flower pot are not usually frost resistant. Plant the bulbs in a planting hole that is three times as deep as the height of the bulbs. A bulb of 2 cm should be planted in a 6 cm deep hole. The planting distance for Iris 'Wonderland' is about 10 cm. Loosen the soil well and plant the bulbs with the point upwards. Refill the planting hole and avoid walking over the soil. Plant the 'Wonderland' mixed bulbs in large groups for best effect. This Iris grows best in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny or partly shaded position and are also particularly suitable for in the rockery.
Iris 'Wonderland' mixed in potsThese Iris grow wonderfully well in pots or window-boxes. Layer the bottom of the pot with hydro-pellets or gravel and make sure you use fresh potting compost. In pots they can be planted closer together. Bulbs planted in pots are of course more susceptible to frost. For extra insulation during the winter months, try lining the inside of the pot with bubble wrap before filling with potting compost (but don't forget the drainage hole in the bottom).
Show moreThe Dutch Iris 'Wonderland' mixed bulbs can remain in the same spot for years. Do water in dry periods of drought but avoid making the soil too wet as they do not appreciate standing in water.
Deadhead the faded flowers and this will direct the energy back into the bulb. For a healthy growth, we recommend sprinkling Bakker's universal plant feed around the base of the leaves immediately after the flowering period. This will ensure a rich flowering for the following year. Protect them from frost with a layer of fallen leaves or straw if severe frost is predicted (> -20°C) - Use bubble wrap around pots and keep them out of the sun. This will help your Iris 'Wonderland' mix to return with lots of flowers again next year.
Iris 'Wonderland' mixed in the winterAlthough Iris 'Wonderland' mix is relatively hardy (to -20°C), it is advisable to protect them (as with most bulbs), make sure they are in a well-drained soil. This way, they should survive through the winter.
Show moreThe name Iris comes from the Greek goddess who travelled over rainbows as a messenger of the gods to man, the messenger of the Olympian gods and the people. It is said that she travelled over the Rainbow, and all the colours of Irises are symbolic of the colours of the Rainbow.
