Flowering Period

Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • As soon as possible after receiving the iris 'Bronze Beauty'® bulbs they can be planted in the garden, a flower pot or in a planter. If not they must be kept in a frost-free area. Bulbs planted in a flower pot are not usually frost resistant. Plant the bulbs in a planting hole that is three times as deep as the height of the bulbs. A bulb of 2 cm should be planted in a 6 cm deep hole. The planting distance for iris 'Bronze Beauty'® is about 15 cm. Loosen the soil well and plant the bulbs with the point facing upwards. Refill the planting hole and avoid walking over the soil. Plant the 'Bronze Beauty' bulbs one by one with a small trowel or with a special bulb planter. For larger groups make a wider hole and plant more bulbs in it. The Dutch Iris grows best in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position.
Iris 'Bronze Beauty'® in the garden
The more flower bulbs planted, the greater effect the Dutch iris 'Bronze Beauty'® will have in your garden or pots. Plant them in groups of at least 6 bulbs, or divide about 25 to 50 or more flower bulbs evenly over the garden border or flower bed. Dutch iris also grow very well in a flower pot or patio planter. Make sure you use fresh potting compost and put a layer of gravel or hydro granules at the bottom of the pot. The bulbs can be planted closer together in a pot.

  • Care
  • The 'Bronze Beauty'® bulbs can remain in the same spot for years. Deadhead the faded flowers and this will direct the energy back into the bulb. After flowering, leave the foliage to die down naturally and cut back when it has turned yellow. During the winter protect with straw or fallen leaves. To protect the bulbs grown in a pot against frost, place the pot in a frost-free area or cover it with bubble wrap. 'Bronze Beauty'® will provide you with an abundance of flowers again the following spring.
