Prunus domestica 'Bleue de Belgique' + 'Reine Claude d’Oullins'
Duo plum tree ‘Bleue de Belgique‘ + ‘Reine Claude d'Oullins‘ - Bare-rooted

Fresh yellow and purple plums

Love plums? So do we! Which is why the duo plum tree is ideal! After all, you get two types of plum on one tree. The yellow-coloured ‘Reine Claude d'Oullins‘ and the violet ‘Bleue de Belgique‘. Both varieties are nice and sweet. The beautiful white blossom and colourful plums will brighten up any garden. The fruit tree can also be planted in a large pot on a patio, roof terrace or balcony. We supply the duo plum tree as bare-root stock — just the bare branch and roots. The branch is freshly removed from the soil. This gives it additional strength, enabling it to branch out faster than it would in a nursery pot. Plants grown from bare-root stock also adapt to their new environment more easily. They grow better and they're more economical. The fruit tree blossoms in spring. That's when it reveals its lovely white flowers. A crop will be ready to harvest from summer onwards in the second year after planting. Pruning is not necessary. The duo plum tree grows in well-drained soil. It's best to give the tree extra water during dry spells. Sufficient light is needed to ensure good growth, which is why we plant the fruit tree in full or half sun.

  • Planting
  • Make sure the roots of the dual plum tree are well-drenched before planting by soaking them in a bucket with lukewarm water. Prepare a large hole and loosen the soil well. Plant the root ball of the Prunus domestica at the right depth in the hole - the top of the root ball should be just below the ground level. Fill the hole and press firmly in. Water immediately after planting. The dual plum tree grows well in well-drained, fertile soil in a warm sheltered spot in the full sun. You could also grow this dual plum tree in a greenhouse or conservatory.
    Potted Dual Plum Tree
This dual plum tree will thrive in a container. Prunus domestica ‘Bleue de Belgique’ and ‘Reine Claude d’Oullins’ takes up little room but produces large fruit. Stand the tree in a sheltered, sunny spot. Create a ‘mini-orchard’ by grouping containers holding other varieties of dual fruit together on your patio or decking.

  • Care
  • Prunus domestica is an easy fruit to grow. Water your dual plum tree more often during dry periods. To avoid too many fruits on the tree remove a number of the young fruits leaving a space of about 7 to 10 cm between the fruits. This way the plums can develop better. There will be fruit for picking in July-August after the first two years. If you allow the picked fruit to mature indoors on the windowsill they will grow sweeter. Give a mulch of well-rotted manure and fertiliser pelleets around the base of the plum tree in the early spring.
    Pruning Dual Plum Tree
You can prune the Prunus domestica ‘Bleue de Belgique’ and ‘Reine Claude d’Oullins’ annually or every other year. Minimum pruning is required. Prune your plum tree preferably between April-September. After all the fruit has been picked you can remove all upright growing branches. Try to leave the crown open. Branches that grow upwards can be bent downwards, this improves your fruit production. Fasten the branches with garden twine.
