Duo apple tree: ‘Elstar‘ + ‘Golden Delicious‘ - Bare-rooted - TreeMalus domestica 'Elstar' + 'Golden Delicious'
Two types of apples. Home-grown
A perfect combination. Two well-known apple varieties on one tree. We have grafted the yellow-green ‘Golden Delicious‘ and the red ‘Elstar‘ onto a single stem. This duo apple tree makes it easy for us to grow delicious apples in our own garden. Alternatively, it can be planted in a large pot on a patio, roof terrace or balcony. The apple tree is self-pollinating. We supply the duo apple tree as bare-root stock — just the bare branch and roots. The branch is freshly removed from the soil. This gives it additional strength, enabling it to branch out faster than it would in a nursery pot. Plants grown from bare-root stock also adapt to their new environment more easily. They grow better and they're more economical. The fruit tree blossoms in spring. That's when it reveals its lovely white-pink flowers. A crop will be ready to harvest from summer onwards in the second year after planting. We prune the apple tree in winter, provided that it isn't frozen. The duo apple tree grows in well-drained soil that we keep nice and moist. It's best to give the tree extra water during dry spells. Sufficient light is needed to ensure good growth, which is why we plant the fruit tree in full or half sun.Show more

Show moreMalus domestica 'Elstar' and 'Golden Delicious' apples are both strong and healthy apple varieties. We advise a mulch of well-rotted manure and fertiliser pellets around the base of the tree in winter. Water extra during periods of drought. In August, thin the fruit out by removing the smallest apples so that all the energy goes to the larger fruit. The apples can be picked in October.
Pruning a Dual Apple TreePrune apple trees from November through to March as long as there is no frost. Fruit trees continue to grow from the top, so if you want to keep your tree shorter we advise topping it off. Most apple trees grow short and strong side shoots on which the apples develop – you can stimulate their growth by cutting the main stems back about a third, to right above a bud. Then cut side shoots back to 3-6 buds and you will then see the fruit develop on there.
