This tree is compact and takes up little room but produces the same big cherries as a regular-sized cherry tree. Stand the container in a sheltered, sunny spot. Create a 'mini-orchard' - plant the (Patio) Dual Cherry Tree, Apple tree, Peach tree, and Dwarf Apricot in containers and stand them all together on your patio or decking.

  • Care
  • A Dual Cherry Tree (Prunus avium) 'Van' and 'Gigarreau Napoléon is easy to grow although it needs to be watered regularly. Are you growing your Dual Cherry Tree in a big planter? Never let the root ball dry out! We recommend some mixed organic fertilizer early in the year. Mulch with a layer of compost around the base of the tree. The cherries ripen in June and turn a dark red colour. Pick cherries along with their stems carefully from the branches. Eat the cherries straight away or store for several days in the refrigerator. Cherries are also wonderful for jam making, syrups and especially for pies. Protection from birds is a must if you want to enjoy the fruit before they do.
    Pruning a Dual Cherry Tree
Prune a Dual Cherry Tree the first year after planting in February. Prune all the shoots by 3/4. Continue pruning in the second year and prune 6-8 branches by 1/4. Every following year, prune new branches by 1/3, do a regular trimming and remove all old branches.
