Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • Make sure that the roots of Clematis 'Viennetta' are well-moistened by first placing in a bucket full of lukewarm water. Prepare a suitable hole in good, loose soil. Clematis 'Viennetta' grows well when you mix nutritious compost into the garden soil. Plant the roots of the Clematis 'Viennetta' at the correct depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil, press firmly and water immediately after planting. It prefers a spot in full sun or partial shade.
Clematis 'Viennetta' makes a great combination plant
The large-flowered Clematis 'Viennetta' looks beautiful when combined with roses. Plant Clematis 'Viennetta' next to the climbing rose 'Silver Sterling' for an interesting combination. This compact clematis can also be grown in a large flower pot. Give the branches some support with some type of climbing frame.

  • Care
  • The Clematis 'Viennetta' hates dry soil so be sure to water it during dry periods. You can keep its 'feet' cool and moist by planting low growing plants around the base. Also, a mulch layer of compost mixed with garden manure is appreciated. This climbing plant grows well along a fence or a pergola. Help it climb by binding its young stems.
Clematis 'Viennetta' needs to be pruned
The Clematis 'Viennetta' is early-flowering and has large flowers. You can lightly prune it in March. Prune all branches back to a strong bud. Remove dead and damaged stems and remove any faded flowers during the summer.
