Calathea 'Elger grass' - Plant

Calathea rufibarba 'Elger grass'
Calathea 'Elger grass'

This shade loving house plant purifies the air!

Such a striking house plant from the South American rainforest. Lovely markings on the narrow, dark and pale green leaves with also pretty wavy edges. Many of the stems and the back of the leaves are in a decorative shade of red. Like many other Calathea varieties, this Calathea rufibarba ‘Elger grass’ goes to sleep every night by folding its leaves in an upright position. Each leaf has its very own little hinge to accommodate this movement and you can hear it working when the leaf folds up. Come daylight, the leaves all hang again. Calathea rufibarba ‘Elger grass’ is therefore a very striking plant you are sure to enjoy enormously. Perfect in a light spot out of direct sunlight.
Calatheas are air-purifiers!
Our homes give off significant amounts of harmful gas particles (see under details for more information) and these are all captured by the leaves on this plant, which returns oxygen into the room in exchange! The microclimate in your home is improved for everyone when you use these plants.
Everyone should have extra pure air in their home so order this pretty house plant today.

How to plant the Calathea in a pot?
This houseplant is delivered in a standard growers pot. It’s best for the growth of the Calathea to plant it in a decorative planter. Select a pot that is at least 20 percent larger than the growers pot.
Cover the bottom of the decorative planter with a layer of potting soil. Does the decorative pot have a hole? Then start with a layer of hydro grains, so the water can drain away. The Calathea should be 1 to 2 cm below the rim. Remove the growers pot and place the plant in the middle of the decorative pot. Fill the pot with fresh potting soil and press it down slightly.

How to take care of the Calathea?
The Calathea is a real jungle plant you have to water regularly. Try to keep the soil slightly moist and check this every now and then by pressing your finger into the soil. The plant should certainly not be standing in a layer of water.
Good air humidity of 60 to 70 percent is also important. Otherwise, the leaf edges may dry out. When the air is dry, spray the leaves once or twice a day. Also make sure the Calathea remains in partial shade.

  • Specifics
  • If you take good care of the Calathea, the plant will take good care of you too! With its large leaves, it converts contaminated substances in your home into oxygen. Solvents in your furniture are released into the air. Too high a concentration of such gases can cause headaches, for example. The Calathea reduces the risk of Sick Building Syndrome.
