Bodinier's Beautyberry 'Profusion' - Shrub

Callicarpa bodinieri 'Profusion'
Bodinier's Beautyberry 'Profusion'
The Beautyberry (Callicarpa Bodinieri 'Profusion') first produces small pink flowers that are not very dramatic, but soon clusters of beautiful violet-purple berries are formed. The berries are not normally eaten by birds until later in the season so tend to remain quite a long time on the branches. A very decorative shrub for autumn and winter!

Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • Make sure the rootball of Beautyberry is well-moistened by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water before planting. Prepare a suitable hole in fertile, calcareous soil. Improve poor garden soil by adding compost and cow manure pellets. Plant the root ball of Beautyberry at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. The Beautyberry grows well in a sunny or partially shaded area.

  • Care
  • Bodinieri Callicarpa 'Profusion' is an easy-to-grow shrub that requires minimal maintenance. Water it more often during dry periods. This shrub will appreciate a mulch of compost and granulated cow manure around the base of its trunk, especially during winter and early spring. Pruning is not absolutely necessary, but you can rejuvenate the Beautyberry, if necessary, by late March prune 1/3 of its branches.
