Areca Palm - Plant

Fresh tropical air in the home

A graceful palm tree in the house which purifies your air too? The Areca palm is the one for you! This ornate Gold palm comes from the tropics and does require some light and moisture. But for that, it gives you tropical air in return. The Dypsis Lutescens is one of the best air-purifying plants. Furniture often exudes contaminated substances. The imposing foliage of the Areca captures the contaminated particles and converts them into oxygen. It’s a pleasure!

How to plant the Areca Palm in a pot?
This houseplant is delivered in a standard growers pot. It’s best for the growth of the Areca Palm to plant it in a decorative planter. Select a pot that is at least 20 percent larger than the growers pot.

Cover the bottom of the decorative planter with a layer of potting soil. Does the decorative pot have a hole? Then start with a layer of hydro grains, so the water can drain away. The Areca Palm should be 1 to 2 cm below the rim. Remove the growers pot and place the plant in the middle of the decorative pot. Fill the pot with fresh potting soil and press it down slightly.

How to take care of the Areca Palm?
The Areca Palm needs water once or twice a week for optimum growth. Dissolve a little fertiliser for green plants in the irrigation water every month. The soil must be constantly moist, but the Gold palm should not be waterlogged. The Dypsis Lutescens needs a rest period in November and December. Then water less and don't fertilise.

Good air humidity of 60 to 70 percent is also important. Otherwise, the leaf edges may dry out. When the air is dry, spray the leaves once or twice a day. The Areca Palm enjoys a light spot with morning or evening sun.

  • Specifics
  • If you take good care of the Areca Palm, the plant will take good care of you too! With its large leaves, it converts contaminated substances in your home into oxygen. Solvents in your furniture are released into the air. Too high a concentration of such gases can cause headaches, for example. The Areca Palm reduces the risk of Sick Building Syndrome.
