Apple tree ‘Marisa‘ - Bare-rooted - TreeMalus domestica Baya® ‘Marisa’
Unique apples from our own soil
From red blossom to red apples, the ‘Marisa‘ apple tree is a joy to behold. In addition to its beautiful red blossom, its fruits are also very unique as the apples have red flesh. And what's more, they're nice and fresh and sweet. We plant ‘Marisa‘ out in the garden. Alternatively, it can be planted in a large pot on a patio, roof terrace or balcony. We supply the apple tree ‘Marisa‘ as bare-root stock — just the bare branch and roots. The branch is freshly removed from the soil. This gives it additional strength, enabling it to branch out faster than it would in a nursery pot. Plants grown from bare-root stock also adapt to their new environment more easily. They grow better and they're more economical. The fruit tree blossoms in spring. That's when it reveals its lovely red flowers. A crop will be ready to harvest from summer onwards in the second year after planting. We prune the apple tree in winter, provided that it isn't frozen. The apple tree grows in well-drained soil that we keep nice and moist. It's best to give the tree extra water during dry spells. Sufficient light is needed to ensure good growth, which is why we plant the fruit tree in full or half sun.Show more

If the top of the tree is still growing and you want a smaller fruit tree, then it is advisable to trim the top. Most apple varieties are spurring types. A ‘spur’ or ‘short shoot’ is where the tree flowers and forms fruits. By pruning it encourages more of these spurs. These are short, highly branched lateral branches. Their growth can be stimulated. Cut out the old growth on the main branches back to 30% to just above a bud. Then cut back all side branches up to 3-6 buds.
