Planting and flowering details
Show moreScabious 'Blue Diamonds' grows well in fertile, well-drained garden soil, in an area with complete sunshine. Prepare a suitable hole, loosen the soil and place the root ball of the scabious 'Blue Diamonds' at the correct depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below soil level. Fill with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. Water regularly but do not overwater. During winter, the ground should not be too wet.
Scabious 'Blue Diamonds' make an excellent pot plantAs the flowers are so large and the flower stems are rather short, this double-flowered Scabious makes an excellent pot plant. The striking blue hue combines wonderfully with the fresh white lily 'Reines'. Choose a large pot and mix these two plants together, placing the lilies more towards the center.
Show moreScabious 'Blue Diamonds' is easy to grow and requires minimal maintenance. Prevent the soil around the roots from drying out. To encourage growth, cut off the faded flower stems of the Scabious 'Blue Diamonds'. The flowering will continue throughout the summer. For an extra rich flowering it is recommended to add plant food every two weeks when watering.
Scabiosa in winterIn winter, the stems will naturally die back above ground. It is advisable to cover the plants during winter with a layer of fallen leaves. In early spring remove all dead foliage and apply a fertiliser. You will soon see the arrival of some new shoots appearing.
