Planting and flowering details
  • Planting
  • As soon as possible after receiving the Tulipa ‘Innuendo’ bulbs they can be planted in the garden, a flower pot or in a planter. If not they must be kept in a frost-free area. Bulbs planted in a flower pot are not frost resistant. Plant the bulbs in a planting hole that is three times as deep as the height of the bulbs. For example a bulb of 5 cm should be planted in a 15 cm deep hole. The planting distance between the Tulipa ‘Innuendo’ bulbs is about 10 cm. Loosen the soil well and plant the bulbs with the point facing upwards. Refill the planting hole and avoid walking over the soil. Plant the ‘Innuendo’ bulbs one by one with a small trowel or with a special bulb planter. For larger groups make a wider hole to accommodate more bulbs. The more flower bulbs planted the greater effect the flowers will have. Plant the tulips in groups of at least 6 bulbs, or divide about 24 to 48 flower bulbs evenly over the garden border or flower bed.
    Tulipa ‘Innuendo’ in a pot
Tulipa ‘Innuendo’ grows well in a flower pot or patio planter. Make sure you use fresh potting compost and place a layer of gravel or hydro granules at the bottom of the pot. Plant the bulbs in a planting hole three times as deep as the height of the bulb. For example a bulb of 5 cm should be planted in a 15 cm deep hole. The planting distance of the tulip ‘Innuendo’ in a pot is about 7 cm. For extra colour in the pot, plant low growing anemones or forget-me-nots just above the tulip bulbs, which will flower beautifully below the tulips.

  • Care
  • The flowers of the Tulipa ‘Innuendo’ are at their best the first year after planting. That’s why we recommend each year adding new and extra bulbs to make your borders and pots even more colourful. The tulip ‘Innuendo’ grows best in loose, well-drained soil in a spot in full sun. To protect the bulbs grown in a pot against frost, place the pot in a frost-free area or cover it with bubble wrap. Water the tulips during dry periods.

Tulipa ‘Innuendo’ as a cut flower
The striking bicoloured flowers of Tulipa ‘Innuendo’ are great as a cut flower. A group of these fresh looking tulips are a must have for your cut flower garden. The flowers last a long time in a vase. Pick the flowers early in the morning. Remove the lower leaves and put the stems immediately in a vase full of lukewarm water with cut flower food. Thanks to the firm stems these tulips are also suitable for using with oasis.
