10x Summer Snowflake ‘Gravetye Giant’ white - Bulb

Leucojum aestivum ‘Gravetye Giant’
10x Summer Snowflake ‘Gravetye Giant’ white

Summer in spring

In contrast to its name, the ‘Gravetye Giant’ summer snowflake already blossoms in spring. That's why the plant is also known as the spring snowflake. The leaves of this Leucojum already start to appear in winter. The small stems carry between 3 and 7 white flowers. What a pretty, playful sight that is!

It’s best to plant the summer snowflake in your garden in autumn. The flower blossoms between April and June. With the proper care, it will bloom year after year!

    • Fresh potting soil and hydro grains (for pots or planters)

How do I plant the summer snowflake?
It’s best to plant the summer snowflake as soon as possible after receipt. Plant it directly into the ground, in a flower pot or in a spacious planter. The summer snowflake grows best in loose, well-drained soil. A sheltered spot in the sun, semi-shade or in the shadow will do just fine.

The summer snowflake should be planted at a depth of 3 times the height of the bulb. If the flower bulb is 5 cm. high, then it should be planted at a depth of 15 cm. The distance between small bulbs is 5 - 8 cm and 10 - 15 cm between larger ones.

Planting can be done in spring as well as in autumn. Use a small spade or a special bulb planter for planting. Plant the bulb with the tip up and the roots down.

Planting the summer snowflake in the garden
Find a suitable place in the border or create a flowerbed. Loosen the soil well and divide the flower bulbs across the surface. That can be done in groups of 6 or spread out evenly. Plant the tulip as indicated above, don't walk on the freshly planted area and water immediately.

How do I plant the summer snowflake in a pot or planter?
Put a layer of hydro grains on the bottom of a decorative pot. Place the flower bulb in the potting soil at the right depth. Water immediately after planting. It's best to put the pot inside in winter, as a tulip in a pot doesn't cope well with frost.

How do I care for the summer snowflake?
The summer snowflake doesn't require a lot of care. Water well during dry spells. The bulb will naturalise quite well in fairly moist soil. And more and more bulbs are likely to appear. This makes your garden blossom even more next year. Clip off the spring snowflake's leaves once they turn yellow.
