Pruning Golden Chain

Pruning in June

If you want to prune your golden chain (Laburnum), this should be done after flowering in June. If you prune the tree before it has flowered, you may accidentally remove some of the flowers, and that would be a great shame.

Golden chain has a strong sap flow in late winter and spring, so this is not a good time to prune. Trees and bushes with a strong sap flow can bleed heavily, causing serious damage. We recommend waiting until after the golden chain has flowered before pruning, and June is the ideal month.
