It isn’t too difficult to create a border but it does require some thought prior to starting. There are certain things that you need to think about for example which colours complement each other, tall and low growing plants, shapes and sizes of the flowers. Even the location of the sun, the soil type and the flowering times has to be considered so as to add interest throughout the year. Try and include a perfect balance by using grasses and shrubs combined with perennials and evergreens. Any spare gaps can be filled with bulbs, bedding plants or you could always sprinkle a packet of seeds between the plants. As you can see it’s not just a case of buying a load of plants and planting them in the ground. Then you must decide what shape the border will take. The most ideal time for plant is in the autumn whilst the soil is warm and moist.
