Annuals are plants that will live their entire life cycle within one year. This means that once they have germinated, sprouted, flowered and seeded they will die off and won’t return. The dormant seed left behind by the parent plant is the only link between one generation and the next. They are easy to grow and quick to flower, and will bring a flash of spectacular colour to the garden. They can be purchased as seeds or plants, and can often be a very cost effective way of filling gaps in flower beds or creating vibrant container displays on the patio or decking.
